Panel 4: The Gender-Specific Practice of Medicine August 17, 2015 Gender-specific practice of medicine takes into account how normal human biology differs between men and women and how the diagnosis and treatment of disease differs as a function of gender. This panel will explore specific case studies of how medical associations, providers, and medical device companies are implementing programs and products with gender differences in mind, addressing the needs of women. Moderator: Lisa Suennen, Managing Partner Venture Valkyrie Lisa Suennen is a venture capital investor and healthcare industry consultant. She is the Managing Partner of Venture Valkyrie Consulting, LLC, a firm that provides strategic advisory services to large corporations as well as corporate and independent venture capital funds around investment and product strategy, innovation spin-outs, market development, partnerships and financing. Lisa has a blog where she writes about innovation and entrepreneurship and the emerging world of digital health. Rose Marie Robertson, M.D., Chief Science Officer, American Heart Association In Rose Marie’s role as Chief Science Officer at AHA she is responsible for the overall science and medical policies and initiatives of one of the nation’s leading science-based organizations, including its work in supporting and accelerating biomedical research, in publishing the leading medical journals in cardiovascular and stroke science, and in providing a home for the broad range of professional members of the association. Virginia Giddings, Global Director, Strategic Research and Development, Abbott Nutrition Virginia Giddings has more than 25 years’ experience in healthcare, with leadership roles in medical device, pharmaceutical and nutrition businesses and is the founder of MedtechWOMEN. Currently, she heads Strategic Research and Development at Abbott Nutrition, responsible for acceleration of innovation through early-stage research and creation of global partnerships.
