The Staff Systems Engineer for Robotics R&D, is highly visible/critical in the company and reports to the Senior Director of Systems Engineering, R&D for Robotics and Surgical Enablers. In this role, you will be responsible to delivering on a multi-generational innovation roadmap for the company’s Robotics Surgical Systems and the broader Real Intelligence Digital Surgery enablers through use of a defined architecture and developing/integrating the hardware and software needs for Robotics and Enablers business.

A core responsibility for this role is ensuring the successful release of Robotics products to market. The role will also involve working closely with R&D functions as well as the Global Marketing, Project Management, Clinical, Quality and Regulatory organizations in developing various aspects of systems and ensuring compliance for the global markets. This position requires an aptitude for detailed project planning with strong team collaboration skills and multitasking abilities. You will work directly with customers, marketing and R&D to translate voice of customer into system requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for defining Robotics Surgical Systems and Real Intelligence Digital Surgery new product development roadmap with consideration of industrial trends & competitive advantages
  • Accountable for key elements of system engineering including requirements management, system architecture definition, system integration, system V&V
  • Influence and implement change strategies that will improve end to end execution of technology projects to reduce cost, improve quality and gain efficiencies
  • Requirements management: Partner with global and regional marketing, clinical experts to capture and prioritize customer needs, and translated into system requirements of NPD projects
  • Development process: ensure the implementation of system requirement into design, system integration of various software and hardware sub-systems and system V&V
  • Lead technical and project risk management activities. Analyze and control technical and regulatory risks
  • Engage with cross functional teams to ensure product is designed for Functionality, Reliability, Scalability, Useability, Performance, Manufacturability and Serviceability
  • Lead system engineering innovation across business, such as Model Based System Engineering, Software FMEA, Modularity Design, etc.
  • Partner with the Design Quality Assurance to implement and improve engineering or design control processes for high quality

Location: Pittsburgh, PA

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Management
  • Graduate degree highly preferred

Experience:

  • 8+ years’ experience in R&D with a track record of bringing complex products to the market
  • Medical device experience is preferred but can be compensated by expertise in sophisticate electro mechanical and software system, such as but not limited to robotics
  • Proven technical leader experience across a variety of engineering areas, including: hardware design and/or robotics, electric systems, embedded systems and software in a matrix organization
  • Lead system engineering improvement across R&D, mentor junior engineers
  • Proficient in requirement management or modeling tools, such as DOORS, Cockpit, Enterprise Architect, PTC Integrity
  • Proficient in system modeling, using SysML, UML or other modeling methods
  • Familiar with SAFe or Agile development process
  • Familiar with Design for Reliability, Design for Six Sigma practices
