Cardiac Rhythm Management offers devices and therapies to treat abnormal heart rhythms, as well as cardiac diagnostic and monitoring solutions.
Medtronic CRM Software teams are engaged in developing the next generation medical technologies that save lives and improves the quality of living for millions of patients across the world.  The CRM Software teams are the most cutting-edge teams within Medtronic, working with various software technologies in application software, network software, mobile software, BT/BLE communication software, and embedded software for management and control of implantable medical devices.  The CRM Software team is looking for a proactive, self-starting, strong Embedded Software Engineer to build and test the next generation of medical instrument software.
As a Senior Embedded Software Engineer in the Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) R&D Software Organization, the individual will operate in all phases and contribute to all activities of the software development and verification process.
A Day in the Life
  • In general, the following responsibilities apply for the Senior Embedded Software Engineer role:
  • Design, Develop and test software for class II and III medical devices.
  • Learn and understand software standards for Medical devices, ex. IEC62304.
  • Define, maintain and implement software requirements and designs and review software developed by other team members.
  • Build prototypes, frameworks, development kits and accelerator systems suitable for engineering evaluations and testing.
  • Contributes and applies advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts to solve complex technical problems.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives for the software team. This includes recognizing areas for improvement as well as working with others to develop and document process improvements.
  • Conduct and/or participate in technical reviews of requirements, specifications, designs, code and other engineering artifacts, ensuring timely delivery to meet program commitments.
  • Design, develop, maintain and execute tests including unit and integration testing and create and maintain documentation generated from testing.
  • Provide hands-on leadership, coaching, mentoring, and software engineering best practices to junior software engineers.
  • Develop reusable patterns and encourage innovation that will increase team velocity.
  • Maintain, improve and design new software tools. These tools use either scripting languages (Perl, Python), programming languages (Java, C, C#), or web technology (HTML5, JavaScript).
  • Work under general direction and collaboratively with internal and external partners


Qualifications - External

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related technical field.
  • 4+ years of Embedded Software Development experience with a Bachelor’s degree, 2+ years of experience with a Master’s degree.

Specialized Knowledge Required

  • Strong knowledge of software design, development, debug and test practices
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with configuration management and issue tracking tools
  • Proficiency with two or more of the following programming languages: C, C++, Java, C#, Objective C
  • Solid understanding of Embedded Software Development processes and environment’
  • Proficiency working in a team environment

Nice to Have

  • Good understanding of communication protocols
  • Experience in Bluetooth stack in a RTOS environment
  • 6+ year of Software Development/Testing experience
  • Strong Leadership skills and mentoring capabilities
  • Experience in mobile software development environments, ex. iOS, Android
  • Experience in Microsoft Visual Studio development platforms/tools, Microsoft TFS, Microsoft Azure
  • Familiarity with Agile and Dev-Ops software development and test methods and tools
  • Experience working within a regulated environment.
  • Quality focus, willingness to learn, versatility and adaptability
