A vision is not just a picture of what could be; it is an appeal to our better selves, a call to become something more.

When I heard that Amy and Deb were organizing a meeting to highlight women on the forefront of medtech, I couldn’t wait to be a part of it.  During the time that I have been involved I have witnessed an incredible group of women take an idea, or vision, and turn it into reality.  For the most part this has been done in addition to many other responsibilities due to the desire to create something unique and meaningful.  The discussions have been collaborative, yet the group has constantly challenged each other to maintain the original intent of the meeting as the plans come together.  I believe the result will be two days filled with best in class learning, discussion and networking opportunities.

Turning a vision into reality is something that most of us who will attend MedtechVISION strive to do every day.  Whether it’s a new medical procedure, technology, or regulation, we are all working to realize a vision that will improve patient outcomes, ultimately making the lives of others better.  I am excited to hear the experiences and stories from our panelists and how they lead their organizations to accomplish both short- and long-term results to achieve their vision.

I grew up with a father whose motto is “plan your work and work your plan” – something I didn’t always appreciate during my teenage years (especially during time that I was required to do things like make a “plan” for prom).  However, as I have gotten older, it has become an integral part of who I am and something I incorporate into my personal and professional life.

I was once asked during an interview if I thought strategy or execution was more important.  My response was that both are equally important – in my opinion, strategy without execution and execution without a plan both result in something less than optimal.  It’s the individuals who can balance and drive both the strategy and the execution who will turn visions into reality.

And so, as we approach the MedtechVISION conference, I look forward to seeing the reality of the vision created by two extraordinary women come to life – and meeting many more of you while I’m there!
