Tuesday, September 12
Join us for the MedtechVISION 2023 Annual Conference that brings together business leaders, inventors, investors, physicians and policy makers to discuss real-world solutions to the most challenging issues facing the medtech industry today.
Our zip code can be a better predictor of our health outcomes than our genetic code. Social determinants of health like access to care, labor market conditions, and environmental factors, plus the clear healthcare gender gap that still exists in the U.S. and around the world, can play a huge role in physical and mental health. Medtech companies have the power to address disparities and improve access through inclusive innovation, while simultaneously expanding the market potential of life-altering medical devices and technologies. Join change agents in our industry who are leading the charge towards equitable healthcare solutions and join us in driving health equity.

Although women face unique health concerns such as breast cancer, cervical cancer, menopause, and pregnancy, they still experience the highest rates of preventable and maternal mortality compared to 10 other wealthy nations in the US. Moreover, women’s health issues are not limited to reproductive health; female patients are more susceptible to heart attack deaths, depression, and anxiety than their male counterparts. Despite these challenges, women’s health remains an under-financed area of healthcare investment. To improve the health of women, we need to prioritize and course-correct our approach to women’s healthcare. How can we allocate more resources and attention to address the pressing health needs of women?

Despite being designed for large patient populations, medtech solutions often overlook the needs of specific individuals due to various factors such as poverty, homelessness, lack of education, advanced age, immobility, rural location, limited English proficiency, or belonging to different ethnic or racial groups. Fortunately, the medtech industry has the tools and resources to create flexible solutions that address these needs from the outset. This entails developing AI-guided diagnostics, digital platforms, wearables, and other non-traditional healthcare technologies. To achieve inclusive design, medtech must make it a top priority. Fortunately, innovators and designers in the medtech community are leading the way by developing new policies, protocols, and solutions. Meet these trailblazers who are transforming medtech design and innovation.

According to a new Deloitte report, America will pay a staggering $1 trillion for its barriers to healthcare access by 2040. The US healthcare system is facing significant hurdles such as staffing shortages, inadequate insurance coverage, and stigma and bias within the medical community. Unfortunately, many socio-economic groups are unable to access healthcare services due to the high cost. However, leaders in medtech are taking on these challenges by developing innovative solutions that cater to previously unmet needs or markets. These solutions are designed to not only improve health access and equity but also provide an attractive ROI.
